This is a Wade & Butcher razor that was made in Sheffield, England. This razor shows no previous hone wear, just sat around all this time since the 1800's and was kept in great restorable condition. Since restoration it is now in defect and blemish free all around, aesthetic and mechanical condition. This is a real old razor from way back there in the 1800's. Wade & Butcher was in business from 1820 until 1959. This razor was made in Sheffield, England sometime during the mid to late 1800's AND before 1892. This is known because in 1892 an international regulation was put in place that all countries have the name of their country printed on the razor. All honest countries complied with this regulation and still do today. Very few countries have ignored this regulation, but a few middle and far eastern countries have ignored this regulation. Based on the manufacturing marks and other characteristics a rough mde date estimate, this razor was made from about 1850 to 1892. Age definment is difficult, but can sometimes be roughly determined from parts like the thicker and wider tangs, the lengths and shapes of monkey tails, the roughness of machining marks, etc. The blade and scales of this razor have been completely restored throughout, which has left all the surfaces re-finished and in a completely clean, sterilized and polished condition, even in the pivot pin area between the handles. In some areas like the tang, spine and monkey tail it has been restored to better than new condition. Some of the original blade, step one roughing out process marks indicate a certain fabrication crudeness that was not greatly improved on during the final finishing processes. Back in the early era mentioned the finishing techniques were not necessarily desired and appearance was left somewhat behind and function was the main criteria. Even so these razors are evrery bit as good as quality razors being made in later years and even today. This razor has an 9/16 wide, carbon steel, hollow ground blade. The original scales have been replaced with genuine bone scales. Included with this razor is razor box that is non original to this razor, but is the correct box for this particular W & B razor. It is in near perfect all around condition. Recently honed to provide a smooth, close and comfortable shave this razor comes guaranteed shave ready.

This razor was made in Sheffield, England by Wade & Butcher. It is in perfect defect and blemish free condition. Hone wear is absent indicating no previous usage on this razor. Wade & Butcher was in business from 1820 until 1959. It is difficult to determine the exact date of manufacture of a Wade & Butcher, or most any brand of straight razor. It is estmated that this razor was made somnetime during the mid 1950's. For certain this razor was made after 1892. That is because in 1892 an international regulation was put in place that all countries have the name of their country printed on the razor. Most countries complied with this regulation and still do today. All countries that manufacture quality straight razors also print other info such as model name, number, etc., so if you see a razor with out this printing it is certainly an inferior razor. Very few countries have ignored this regulation, but a few middle and far eastern countries have ignored this regulation. Without a name it is undeterminable as to their origin. By ignoring this regulation allows them to produce and sell inferior quality razors to an unsuspecting public. Most of these razors are so in ferior that they either can not be made "shave ready" or they won't hold an edge for more than a shave or two. The blade of this razor is 5/8 wide, is made of carbon steel with a hollow grind. All steel surfaces on this blade have a hiighly lustrous, toaster like mirror finish. The original scales were replaced with brand new exotic wood scales that are of either ash, hickory or possible oak. They are heavily grained with a smooth satiny surface finish. Included with this razor is a razor box in perfect condfition. It is not original to this razor, but is the correct box for this particular Wafe & Butcher model razor. Recently honed and stropped to provide a smooth, close and comfortable shave this razor comes guaranteed shave ready.

This razor is a George Wostenholm & Son razor. This particular model of Wostenholm is their, "ORIGINAL & TRUE PIPE RAZOR". It is difficult to come up with a date of manufacture for Wostenholm razors, but if you are interested in some of the Wostenholm history here is an interesting  link  http://www.eggintongroup.co.uk/history/the-history-of-george-wostenholm.html  The original business was started by George Wostenholm who operated in Sheffield, England from 1797 - 1823, the business was later operated under the name George Wostenholm and Son, Successors to George Wostenholm in 1823, and other later Wostenholm's who operated the razor and cutlery business until at least 1991. However, and based on the blade shape, original scales and manufacturing details, combined with what can be found in the above link, I believe this razor was made about 1875 to 1890. As for the condition of this particular razor, hone wear shows light to moderate previous usage, but with an 11/16 wide blade this razor will last a lifetimne for a young man. The blade has a mirror finish, is made of carbon steel with a hollow grind. The scales on this razor are replacement black celluloid. They are in like new condition. Recently honed to provide a smooth, close and comfortable shave this razor comes guaranteed shave ready.

This razor is a George Wostenholm & Son, Peerless model straight razor that was made in Sheffield, England. The Wostenholm's razors were in business for a long time, from 1797 until 1991. The original business was started by George Wostenholm who operated in Sheffield, England from 1797 - 1823, the business was later operated under the name George  Wostenholm and Son, Successors to George Wostenholm in 1823, and other later Wostenholm's who operated the razor and cutlery business until at least 1991. This is one of Wostenholm's Original Pipe Razors. Designated by the pipe emblem on the reverse of the tang. It is also a PEERLESS model and is so printed on the blade face. As for the condition of this particular razor, hone wear is non-existent and all the metal surface finishes in some cases are in better than new condition. This is because the tang, monkey tail and spine have been polished to a toaster like mirror finish, which the original razor was not. The blade is a full 5/8 wide, is made of carbon steel with a hollow grind. The scales are the original horn scales that are still in excellent condition. Recently honed and stropped to provide a smooth, close and comfortable shave this razor comes guaranteed shave ready.
