This is an Erik Anton Berg straight razor that was made in Eskilstuna, Sweden. This razor is in excellent condition with almost no hone wear. Swedish razors have a stand alone quality that distinguishes them from other razors, because of their unfailing quality of steel and manufacturing standards. Not that they are better than any top quality razor, but they are as good as any razor made, with a superb unfailing reputation. The Erik Anton Berg company started in business producing straight razors in 1879, with no records I can find as to when production was stopped. It was started by 23 year old Erik Anton Berg who was born in 1856 and died at the young age of 47 in 1903. The company continued with Erik's 5 daughters until 1928 when they hired Mr C. Gustaf Andersson as director, who continued running the company until 1959 when the daughters sold the company to AB Bahco, who owned and operated the company under his name and trademark Bahco until he sold the company to Snap On tools in 2007. The blade of this razor is 5/8 wide, is made of carbon steel with a hollow grind. It carries genuine bone scales. These scales are in perfect condition and carry a very nice grain. Recently honed to provide a smooth, close and comfortable shave, this razor comes guaranteed shave ready.
NOTE: Swedish steel was produced from Swedish iron ore, one of the purest iron ores known. It made such good steel that many countries imported it, including England, Germany and Japan. Some German razor manufacturers even opened their own mines in Sweden. Swedish steel makes a good, hard, edge-retaining steel.
